2023 Candidate Search Information

Autauga County, a 604 square mile area, was established in 1818 while Alabama was still a territory. The area’s abundance of water attracted Daniel Pratt, Prattville’s founding father and Alabama’s first major industrialist, who harnessed the flow of Autauga Creek to supply hydropower to his industrial enterprises. According to the 2020 census, Autauga County is home to nearly 60,000 people with a median age of 38.6 and median household income of $58,000. The county is situated approximately 1.5 hours south of Birmingham and 30 minutes north of Montgomery - the state’s capital. Autauga County Schools is dedicated to fostering the whole student in an academically rigorous environment, where everyone is known and valued, by creating pathways designed for success.  The 14-campus public school system is located in Autauga County, Alabama, just north of the state's capital city. ACS serves 8,955 students, from across the world, as the only public school system in the City of Prattville and Autauga County. Rich in tradition, the district was established prior to 1912 according to historical records with the first school board meeting taking place on September 30, 1918.

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH

The Autauga County Board of Education is seeking an experienced leader with strong interpersonal and administrative skills to work with the school board to plan, develop, and maintain the best possible educational programs and services for students, with an emphasis on improving academic achievement as indicated in the Notice of Vacancy. To download the complete candidate search package, click here. 

Qualifications
Alabama law requires the Superintendent be chosen for general fitness and character and be knowledgeable in school administration. Autauga County Schools' minimum qualifications include:

  • Possession of or eligibility for the appropriate certification to serve as a Superintendent in the state of Alabama
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of ten years in public education, including classroom experience and at least five years as a school or district administrator
  • Eligibility to be bonded by the school system’s insurance carrier

Salary
The total compensation package, inclusive of salary, is $160,000 - $180,000 depending on circumstances of the selected individual.
